Junior Courtney Benson (Hopkinton, N.H.) registered two goals and an assist to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory against the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Kayo Field.
Benson staked Southern New Hampshire to a 1-0 lead just 6:51 into the match when she took advantage of a New Haven miscommunication in the box and tapped a loose ball past Chargers' goalkeeper Deandra Nash.
Benson doubled the Penmen lead early in the 18th minute when she found the back of the net off a corner kick.
SNHU made it 3-0 in the 29th minute as Benson sent a bouncing ball into the box that was headed into the net by junior Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.).
A beautiful goal from junior Rene Hamel (Wilbraham, Mass.) just over four minutes before the half capped the scoring and made it 4-0. Hamel lofted the ball over the head of a New Haven defender and then ran by her before volleying the ball into the net from 25 yards out.
