BOX SCORE

When and Where: December 9, 2016 – Shelton, Conn. (Sports Center of Connecticut)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 6, Post University 1
Records: SNHU 10-3-0, Post 0-6-0

Graduate student Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) registered four points, while senior Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) and freshman Jared Goudreau (Manchester, N.H.) each scored twice to lead the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team past Post University, 6-1, on Friday.

Collins tallied a goal and assisted on three others, and junior Chris Moquin (Hooksett, N.H.) joined freshman Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) with a pair of helpers.

Sylvia staked the Penmen to a 1-0 advantage early in the first, as he potted his eighth of the year at 3:34 from Strawn. After the Eagles knotted the score midway through the frame, Strawn set up junior Kyle Valliere (Goffstown, N.H.) with 3:48 left in the opening period to give Southern New Hampshire a lead it would never relinquish.

Goudreau opened the second with a powerplay marker less than two minutes into the stanza off a feed from Collins and senior Nathan Bergeron (Auburn, Maine) to build a two-goal cushion. A shorthanded goal off the stick of Collins at 6:27 made it a 4-1 game, before he and Moquin set up Goudreau for his second man advantage strike of the period at 11:37.

Collins and Moquin teamed up again to create a special teams scoring opportunity late in the third, as they found Sylvia with 4:30 remaining for his second to provide the final margin of victory.

Junior Matthew MacInnis (Arlington, Texas) earned his second win of the season after turning aside 17 shots through the first two periods. Freshman Alex Reissis (Arlington, Mass.) entered in the third period, and made three saves in his first career appearance.

Notes:
- After recording his first career hat trick on Wednesday and scoring twice on Friday, Goudreau has five goals in his past two games. Since Sunday, Goudreau has amassed eight points in three games.
- Collins' four-point afternoon on Friday ups his season point total to 25 with eight goals and 17 assists. Collins leads the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring, and has more than twice as many points and assists as the next closest skater.
- The Penmen have outscored their opponents 18-5 during their current four-game winning streak. Southern New Hampshire is undefeated when scoring three or more goals in a game, and 10-1 when scoring at least two.
- SNHU outshot Post, 41-21, and converted on three of its seven powerplay opportunities.
