Florida Southern Topples Men's Tennis, 8-1

Sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) and freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) were victorious in their doubles match, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Florida Southern College on Thursday at the Warden Tennis Center.

Ramirez and Georgeff pulled out an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles against Fabian Lundberg and Arthur Viallaniex to slice SNHU's deficit in half at 2-1 following doubles play, but the Mocs would sweep singles action.

Sophomore Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) put up a solid fight against Miguel Alvarez-Hevia at No. 3 singles, but fell, 6-4, 6-3. Graduate student Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) also made things tough on his opponent at No. 4 singles, but Brian Slivonik would prevail, 6-3, 7-5.

The Penmen won 10 combined games in the other four singles matches.

Notes:
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the newest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings that were released Wednesday.
-Sophomores Ricardo Marreiros (Portugal), Miguel Marreiros (Portugal) and Aubron were all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.
-Florida Southern is ranked 10th in the South Rankings.

The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, March 29 (3 p.m.) when they jump back into Northeast-10 play and take on Bentley University.
