The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory against Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
The Penmen set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomores Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) doubled up their opponents, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while sophomores Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) and Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal), as well as sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) and freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario), earned 8-1 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
SNHU kept it rolling during singles play, with Ricardo Marreiros posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Uladzislau Litvinchuk, while Miguel Marreiros pulled out a 6-2, 7-6 win at the No. 2 slot.
Aubron defeated Sebastian Zapata at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4, and Fernandes was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Roey Heymann at No. 4 singles.
Ramirez handled Daniel Khodosh, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, with Georgeff leading Connor Dove, 6-0, 5-0, at No. 6 singles when Dove was forced to retire with an injury.
Notes:
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings, while Adelphi is ranked seventh.
-Ricardo Marreiros, Miguel Marreiros and Aubron are all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players in the region at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.
-Adelphi had been leading the Northeast-10 after being picked to finish second in the preseason.
