Sophomores Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal), Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) each won a pair of matches to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 6-3 win against Bentley University on Wednesday afternoon at the Bentley Tennis Courts.
The Penmen established an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Miguel Marreiros and Fernandes posted an 8-3 victory against their opponents at No. 1 doubles, while Ricardo Marreiros and fellow sophomore Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) recorded an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) and freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) made it 3-0 by pulling out an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Marreiros brothers would clinch the match for SNHU, with Ricardo besting Brendan McCarty, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, at No. 1 singles and Miguel downing George Samander, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 2 singles.
Fernandes captured his No. 4 singles match against Chase Rosa, 6-0, 6-1.
Notes:
-Ramirez and Georgeff have now won three straight doubles matches.
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings.
-Ricardo Marreiros, Miguel Marreiros and Aubron are all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players in the region at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.
