Freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) did not lose a game all day as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team easily handled American International College, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at the Meadows.
Georgeff teamed with sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) for an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles and also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Andrew DeBrincat.
Sophomores Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) doubled up their opponents, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, with fellow sophomores Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) posting an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles to stake the Penmen to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Marreiros brothers were able to clinch the match with singles victories as Ricardo downed Ricardo Martinez, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 slot and Miguel notched a 6-3, 6-2 win against James Worrall at No. 2 singles.
Aubron tallied a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles against Luis Gouveia, with graduate student Max Seiler (Munich, Germany) defeating Johno May by the same score at No. 5 singles. Fernandes joined Georgeff with a 6-0, 6-0 blitzing of Michael Schulze at the No. 4 spot.
Notes:
-The Penmen have won three straight for the first time since April 12-26, 2014.
-Ramirez and Georgeff have now won four straight doubles matches.
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings.
-Ricardo Marreiros, Miguel Marreiros and Aubron are all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players in the region at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.
