Men's Tennis Slides Past Le Moyne, 5-4, for Fourth Straight Win

Sophomore Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) won a huge singles match to lift the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 5-4 win against Le Moyne College on Sunday afternoon at Gold's Gym.

With the match tied at 4-all, Aubron's No. 3 singles match with Hallam Doney stood as the tiebreaker. In an intense bout, Aubron took the first set, 6-3, before cruising to a 6-1 victory in the second set to take the match for the Penmen.

Southern New Hampshire trailed 2-0 after the first two doubles matches before sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) and freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) posted an 8-3 win against their opponents at No. 3 doubles to make it a one-point match.

SNHU earned a pair of points with singles wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, with sophomore Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory against James Gayvert and sophomore Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) tallying up a 6-3, 6-2 triumph versus Jason Barton. Fellow sophomore Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 W against Stephane Legris at No. 4 singles to stretch the Penmen lead to 4-2.

Le Moyne battled back to tie it with a pair of singles victories, including a No. 6 tilt that Georgeff took to a tiebreak in the first set.

Notes:
-The Penmen have won four straight for the first time since March 2-19, 2014 when it won six-in-a-row.
-Ramirez and Georgeff have now won five straight doubles matches.
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings.
-Ricardo Marreiros, Miguel Marreiros and Aubron are all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players in the region at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.
