Senior goalkeeper Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) matched her career high by recording 10 saves for the second time this week, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team was tipped, 1-0, on a goal in the 90th minute by Assumption College on Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Stadium.
Things played pretty evenly in the first half, with Assumption holding a 10-7 lead in shots, but the Greyhounds held a 10-2 advantage in the second half as they played up a player for the final 26:38 of the match following a SNHU red card. Assumption finally broke through with just 50 seconds to play in regulation when Taylor Morais was able to volley Alexis Stowell's cross from the right side into the corner of the net.
Juniors Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) and Rene Hamel (Wilbraham, Mass.) both tallied a team-high two shots for the Penmen, who were playing their third match in six days.
Notes:
- SNHU finishes the three-games-in-six-days stretch, 1-1-1, including 1-0-1 against two-nationally ranked opponents.
- Scanlon stopped 28 of the 30 shots she faced during the three-game span.
- After averaging nearly three goals per game over their first four matches of the season, the Penmen are scoring less than one per game during the five matches since. SNHU is 2-2-1 over that time, with all four decisions coming by a single goal.
- Assumption outshot Southern New Hampshire, 20-9, and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
