Senior goalkeeper Paige Salmon (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) made a season-high eight saves, but the 18th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team saw its nine-match unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-0 loss to undefeated Adelphi University on Saturday at Motamed Field.
Adelphi drew first blood early in the 14th minute when Kerianne Scorce took a feed from Madison Raposo and maneuvered around a diving Salmon to put the ball in the back of the net.
SNHU controlled the final 10 minutes of the opening half, with sophomore Emily Roan (Bridgewater, Mass.) making a couple of bids that were stopped by Adelphi goalkeeper Isabel Sandstrom, including one in the 37th minute that resulted in a rebound opportunity for senior Abigail Maker (Naples, Maine), who struck the ball just over the crossbar.
The Panthers doubled their lead late in the 53rd minute off a corner when Sage Dieterle put her head on a ball that beat Salmon to make it 2-0.
The Penmen forced Sandstrom to make just one save the rest of the way, as Adelphi remained perfect and ended SNHU's streak.
Sandstrom made three saves.
