Junior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) claimed a No. 1 singles win, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was handed another 8-1 loss by Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Friday at the BYUH Tennis Courts.
Fernandes held a 3-0 lead on Sterling Galli in the first set of their No. 1 singles match when Galli retired.
Junior Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal), who earned a 9-8 (7-6) victory against Guillermo Ucelay in Wednesday's match, came out on the wrong end of a 3-6, 6-7 (3-7) decision with Ucelay.
Freshman Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherland) and junior Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) made things close against Simon Gullin and Ucelay at No. 2 doubles, falling 9-7.
Notes:
-Since notching the program's best start ever at 6-0, the Penmen have lost five straight.
-SNHU is ranked fourth in the Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings.
