The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory against Assumption College on Sunday evening at the Paxton Indoor Tennis Facility.
Juniors Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) had the toughest battle of the night at No. 1 doubles, eventually pulling out a 9-7 win against Chris Waung and Marco Leung. Fellow juniors Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) doubled up Ryan Foster and Danny Waung, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles, while junior Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Adam Courtemanche (Greenville, R.I.) blanked Casey Hodor and Tom Knight, 8-0, at No. 3 to sweep doubles play.
In singles action, Fernandes breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 No. 1 singles triumph against Chris Waung, while Ricardo Marreiros dropped the first set to Ryan Foster in the No. 2 slot, 2-6, before roaring back to take the final two sets, 6-3, 6-0. Miguel Marreiros defeated Leung, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, with Aubron downing Danny Waung, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.
Reichentahl made quick work of Hodor at No. 5 singles, 8-1, with Courtemanche capturing his second straight singles win with an 8-5 victory over Knight in the sixth spot.
Notes:
-The Penmen have now won three-in-a-row and extend their NE10 winning streak to 14 straight, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
-SNHU is ranked fourth in the Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings.
