Junior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) was victorious in both of his No. 1 matches as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team cruised past Stonehill College, 8-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
Fernandes and classmate Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) held off Thomas Bellio and Nikolay Lisichenok, 9-7, at No. 1 doubles, while fellow juniors Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) scored an 8-3 victory at No. 2 against Manu Ravichandrakumar and Tom Buckley. Junior Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Adam Courtemanche (Greenville, R.I.) came up short against Jeffrey Gagnon and Dimitri Vlassov, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
Leading, 2-1, after doubles, Southern New Hampshire swept all six singles matches to easily clinch the win. Fernandes topped Bellio, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Ricardo Marreiros and Miguel Marreiros each notched 6-2, 6-2, triumphs against Lisichenok at No. 2 and Ravichandrakumar at No. 3, respectively.
Aubron edged Buckley, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 4 singles, with Reichentahl making quick work of Gagnon, 6-0, 6-3, in the No. 5 slot. Courtemanche picked up a 7-5, 6-2 No. 6 singles victory against Aaron Diamond.
Notes:
-The Penmen have now won four-in-a-row and extend their NE10 winning streak to 15 straight, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
-SNHU is ranked fourth in the Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings.
