BOX SCORE

When and Where: February 16, 2018 – Goffstown, N.H. (Sullivan Arena)
Score: Saint Anselm College 4, Southern New Hampshire University 2
Records: SNHU 12-7-3 (6-6-2 Northeast-10), Saint Anselm 14-9-1 (10-4 Northeast-10)

Sophomore Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) turned aside 41 shots and freshman Kyle Galloway (Sugar Hill, Ga.) tallied two points, but a pair of shorthanded Saint Anselm College goals provided the difference Friday, as the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team fell on the road to the Hawks, 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, the Penmen jumped out to an early lead in the second stanza when senior Kyle Valliere (Goffstown, N.H.) put away his sixth of the season. Valliere collected a feed from Galloway and unloaded a bomb bardown at 1:33 to break the scoreless stalemate.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as the hosts knotted the score less than four minutes later and proceeded to score four unanswered goals over the ensuing 17-plus minutes of action. Kevin Curley potted the equalizer with a shorthanded marker at 5:22 from Jeremy Carignan before Jonathan Folsom gave the Hawks the lead for good with 9:43 to go before the intermission. The lead increased to a pair off an offensive zone faceoff of the third as John Femia connected with Jake Grade for another shorthanded goal just 15 seconds into the final frame. Just Longo capped the run at 2:34 with help from Brian Cameron and extended the Saint Anselm edge to three at 4-1.

Senior Timothy Baylis (West Haven, Conn.) capped the game's scoring with 4:37 to play in regulation after he converted a feed from Galloway and freshman Max Kent (Sandwich, Mass.), but it was as close at the Penmen would come.

Colin Soucy earned the win between the pipes for the Hawks after a 25-save performance.

Notes:
- Friday night's outcome assured the two teams will meet in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on February 24 at Sullivan Arena. The two sides have split the previous two meetings.
- The Penmen finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay and held the Hawks scoreless in their four man-advantage opportunities. Southern New Hampshire had not allowed a shorthanded goal all season prior to Friday.
- SNHU was outshot by a 45-27 margin, including a 16-8 spread in the third period.

What's Next:
