Graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) won a pair of matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team dropped its spring opener to Queens (N.Y.) College, 6-3, Friday at the Queens College Tennis Center.
Trailing, 2-0, in doubles play, SNHU salvaged a point at No. 2, as Aubron and sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) pulled out an 8-6 victory against Cosme Jubera and Lucas Martinez.
The Knights recorded singles victories at Nos. 5 and 6 to take a commanding 4-1 lead and clinched the match at No. 3 singles, despite Penmen victories at Nos. 1 and 4. Senior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) was a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 winner over Gabriel Mendez at the top flight, with Aubron taking care of Martinez, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4.
Notes:
-Queens is ranked No. 2 in the ITA East Regional Rankings, while the Penmen are fourth.
