Sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) won a pair of matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team closed its Florida trip with a 7-2 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic University on Friday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
Palm Beach Atlantic led, 2-0, when van Biezen and graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) pulled out an 8-6 victory against Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva so salvage a doubles win at No. 1.
Southern New Hampshire fell behind, 3-1, to open singles play before van Biezen rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Thomas Salmon, climbing with one. The Sailfish then were triumphant in three straight to make it a 6-2 match before graduate student Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) battled against Zarazua at No. 1, but fell, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
Notes:
-van Biezen went a perfect 3-0 in singles play during the trip.
-The Penmen are ranked No. 4 in the ITA Division II East Regional Rankings.
