The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team stayed hot Saturday, sweeping past Stonehill College, 9-0, at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex.
Seniors Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) opened the match with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles over Jeffrey Gagnon and Joey Conrad. Fellow seniors Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 against Manu Ravichandrakumar and Tom Buckley, before graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) and sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) made it 3-0 with an 8-5 triumph against Thomas Bellio and Nikolay Lisichenok at No. 1.
Aubron kicked off singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 against Aaron Diamond, before Fernandes clinched the match by battling back for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bellio at No. 1. Ricardo Marreiros then downed Ravichandrakumar, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), at No. 2, with Miguel Marreiros rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Lisichenok at No. 3.
van Biezen continued his winning ways at No. 5 singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 defeat of Buckley, while Reichentahl pulled out a 9-7 win against Gagnon at No. 6.
Notes:
-Southern New Hampshire extends its NE10 winning streak, including the postseason, to 28.
-van Biezen, who is 13-2 on the season in singles play, has won 11 of 12, including seven straight.
-The Penmen are ranked No. 4 in the ITA Division II East Regional Rankings.
