Senior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal.) won both of his matches, including the clincher at No. 1 singles, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team toppled Concordia (N.Y.) College, handing the Clippers their first loss to a Division II East Region opponent in 125 matches Saturday at the SNHU Tennis Courts at Penmen Stadium.

Seniors Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) led Southern New Hampshire out to a good start with an 8-4 win over William Nilsson and Axel Oljons at No. 2 doubles. After Concordia pulled even, Fernandes and classmate Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) put the Penmen up one heading to singles play with an 8-6 triumph over Michele Fenoaltea and Henry Masters at No. 3 doubles.

The Clippers again leveled the match to begin singles, before graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) breezed past Masters, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 and sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) took care of Oljons, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5, to build a 4-2 advantage.

Concordia would pull within one, but Fernandes answered the bell, rallying for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Eymeric Chevalier at No. 1, to give the Penmen the monumental win.
