Junior Shae Roys (No. Billerica, Mass.) scored what would be the game-winning goal just 2:32 into the contest, as the 12th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at Pace University on Saturday at Pace Stadium. 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Roys' goal was her second of the season.
  • Freshman Sydney Carney (Northborough, Mass.) collected the other Penmen goal.
  • Freshman Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made a career-high seven saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern New Hampshire struck first midway through the third minute when graduate student Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) sent a corner service into the box, where senior Danielle Humphreys (Hebron, Conn.) tipped it to Roys, who put it in the back of the net.
  • It remained a 1-0 match into the 70th minute when sophomore Allyson Patterson (Seekonk, Mass.) delivered a thru-ball to the feet of Carney, who beat Pace goalkeeper Morgan Jones, 1-on-1, to double the Penmen advantage.
  • Rose, who made three of her saves in the second half, was not forced to stop another shot the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Jones stopped seven shots for Pace.
  • Pace held an 11-10 edge in shots, as well as an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. 

NOTES

  • Southern New Hampshire has now pitched a pair of shutouts in its last three matches.
  • SNHU bounces back from a loss Wednesday and is now 4-0-1 in games following a loss since the end of 2016.
  • The Penmen are now 23-7-5 (.729) over their last 35 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.  

UP NEXT 

  • The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 18 (7 p.m.) when they play host to in-state rival Franklin Pierce University in a rematch of the 2017 Northeast-10 final at Penmen Stadium.
