Sophomore Reanna Romano (Derry, N.H.) scored in the 53rd minute to snap a scoreless deadlock and send the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Wednesday evening at Zolad Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Romano's goal was the first of her career.
- Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) stopped the only shot she faced for her third shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams were only able to put one shot on net in the opening half and went to the break, scoreless.
- Romano fixed that just over seven-and-a-half minutes into the second stanza, hitting a blast from 40 yards out that sailed over the outstretched arm of New Haven goalkeeper Paige Davis to make it 1-0.
- Rose passed her only test in the 64th minute, turning away a bid from Jordan Nichols.
- The Penmen kept the pressure on, forcing Davis to make three saves in the final seven-plus minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Davis made four saves for the Chargers.
- SNHU outshot New Haven, 13-4, including 4-0 in the opening half.
- The Penmen also owned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, including 4-1 in the second stanza.
