Penmen Drop First Conference Game At Saint Michael's Friday

Sophomore Joe Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.) tallied a power-play goal and added an assist, but SNHU fell 5-2 at Saint Michael's College Friday night in South Burlington, Vermont.   

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Just minutes after killing off the first man advantage situation for Saint Michael's, SNHU capitalized on its first power-play.  Freshman George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) was able to put a rebound home.  It was Thurston's team-leading ninth goal.
  • Freshman Joe Biddle (Andover, Mass.) fired the initial shot on net, and was credited with his first assist of the season.  Fiorino also was credited with his eighth assist.
  • The only other goal in the game for SNHU came at 13:33 of the third period when Joe Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.) took a pass from freshman James Nash (Hampton, N.H.) and buried a shot in the upper right corner of the net to make it 4-2.
NOTES
  • SNHU's power-play, which has been so effective this season, has now scored 17 power-play goals in the first 10 games.  The Penmen went 2-for-5 on the power play.  Saint Michael's College was 1-for-6.  
  • Saint Michael's College held a 34-29 shot advantage for the game.
  • The Penmen held the lead until 7:32 of the second period when the Purple Knights scored the first of four unanswered goals.  
  • It was the first meeting of the season between the NE10 rivals.  SNHU went 2-0-2 against Saint Michael's last year, including a win in the NE10 semifinals.
  • The Penmen have dropped three consecutive games after starting the season 6-1.  They have scored only four goals in three games since posting a 4-3 win at Saint Anselm College on November 22.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will host Assumption College in NE10 play on Saturday at 7:20 p.m.  SNHU will host its first-ever Teddy Bear Toss.  Fans will throw teddy bears or similar stuffed animals onto the ice when the Penmen score their first goal.  All collected will be donated to the Manchester Police Athletic League and Jamie's Joy.  Teddy Bears will also be available for purchase at the entrance to The Ice Den for $5.
  • The Greyhounds lost 5-3 at Saint Anselm College on Friday night.  
  • Saturday's contest is the last game for SNHU in 2019.  The next game will be January 11, 2020 when the Penmen will host Becker College.
