BOX SCORE | HIGHLIGHTS

When and Where: February 1, 2019 – Hooksett, N.H. (The Ice Den)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 6, Post University 0
Records: SNHU 10-6-4 (5-3-3 Northeast-10 Conference), Post (6-14-0)

Senior Artem Efimov-Barakov scored twice and freshman Alec Marshall recorded the first shutout of the season for Southern New Hampshire University in a 6-0 win over Post University on Friday night at The Ice Den.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Senior Artem Efimov-Barakov (Khimki, Russian) tallied two goals and assists to lead the Penmen.
  • Senior Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) turned in a multi-point effort with a goal and an assist.
  • Freshman Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.) also added a goal and an assist.
  • Senior Chris Moquin (Hooksett, N.H.) and freshman Cole Stewart (Alpharetta, Ga.) each had two assists.
  • Making only his second career start, freshman Alec Marshall (Nashua, N.H.) turned aside all 24 shots he faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern New Hampshire scored the only goal of the first period.  With 1:01 remaining, Efimov-Barakov carried the puck out of his own zone and fired a shot that landed in the upper-right corner of the net.  Junior Kaleb Godbout (Williston, Vermont) was credited with the assist.
  • Given a man advantage at the start of the second period, SNHU would make it 2-0 on a goal by freshman Charlie Davis (Milton, Mass.).   Davis connected on a one-timer from the left side after taking a feed from Stewart, who was behind the net.  Sophomore Max Kent (Sandwich, Mass.) also assisted on that goal.
  • The Penmen opened the lead to 3-0 at 5:06 of the middle period when freshman Phil Heisse buried his second goal of the season with a blast from just inside the blue line.  Efimov-Barakov delivered the puck back out to Heisse for his shot.
  • The first of three SNHU goals in the third period was scored by Efimov-Barakov, who finished off a three-on-two fast break with passes from senior Joseph Berardi and Stewart at 8:49.
  • Jake Cox, who worked the evening with the veterans, Strawn and Moquin, delivered the first goal of the night from the starting line at 12:12 of the final period.
  • Strawn tallied his seventh goal of the season at 14:55 with the Penmen on the power-play.  Strawn was set-up by Cox and Moquin to make it 6-0.

NOTES

  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Post, 65-24, including 26 shots in the first period.
  • The Penmen converted two of six power-play opportunities, but failed on one penalty shot in the second period.
  • There's a four-way tie among SNHU players for the team lead with seven goals.  Moquin was joined at the top by Davis, Cox and Strawn.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • Southern New Hampshire is back in action Saturday (Feb. 2) when it again entertains Post University at the Ice Den at 3:30 p.m.  Seniors will be recognized prior to the contest.
