Grad student Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) tied the game with less than four minutes of play, but Franklin Pierce scored in overtime for a 3-2 win over SNHU on Friday at The Ice Den.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- SNHU had an aggressive start to the contest and was rewarded with an early goal. Sophomore Andy Somerville (Medford, Mass.) took a pass in front and buried his blast for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Cole Stewart (Alpharetta, Ga.) and sophomore Travis Quigley (North Babylon, N.Y.) exchanged passes behind the net before sending the puck out to Somerville.
- In the closing seconds of the first period, Franklin Pierce tied the contest at 1-1 on the power-play. Starting behind his own net, Mark Indelicato hit Alex Lester with a long pass. He in turn found Chris Stevenson for a one-timer at 19:55.
- The Ravens took the lead at 17:18 of the second period when Conor Foley converted a turnover into his sixth goal of the season.
- At 16:09 of the final period, Strawn tied the game at 2-2. Sophomore Gustaf Arfelt (Stockholm, Sweden) sent a long pass out of the Penmen zone to sophomore Joe Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.). Fiorino set up Strawn, who scored his second goal of the season.
- Franklin Pierce won the game on a goal By Ryan Gorbett at 2:20 of overtime, spoiling a solid effort in net for SNHU sophomore JT Kossakowski (Elburn, Ill.)
NOTES
- Kossakowski made 32 saves for the Penmen. Ian Wallace stopped 31 shots for the Ravens.
- SNHU went 0-for-3 on its limited power-play opportunities, with Franklin Pierce finishing up 1-for-4.
- The Penmen fell to 0-3 in overtime games this season. They have come in the last five starts, and all at home.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen and Ravens clash again on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at the Jason Ritchie Arena in Winchendon, Mass., who ice for Franklin Pierce.
- The next home contest for the Penmen will be on Tuesday, February 4, when SNHU meets NE-10 rival Post University at 7:10 p.m.
