Penmen Playoff Hopes Take Hit With 6-2 Loss At Stonehill

Records: SNHU 9-14-0 (7-9-0 NE10), Stonehill 11-10-4 (8-5-3 NE10)

Graduate student Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) and junior Kyle Galloway (Sugar Hill, Ga.) scored third period goals, but SNHU dropped a 6-2 decision at Stonehill College on Tuesday night.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Stonehill scored a pair of goals in the first period and added three more in the second to open a 5-0 lead.
  • Skyhawk senior Jack Hall recorded a hat trick, scoring three power-play goals.
  • Strawn scored his third goal of the season for the Penmen at 7:49 of the third period.
  • After a Stonehill turnover, freshman Matt Monreal (Wauwatosa, Wis.) took a shot, which was blocked.  Strawn knocked the rebound home.  It was his third goal of the season and 25th of his career for SNHU.
  • The other goal for SNHU came at 16:11 when Galloway buried the puck which wound up right in front of the net.
  • Freshman Andrew Ray (Cumberland, Maine) was credited with the assist on the play.
  • Galloway has five goals on the season, three of them coming in the last three games.
NOTES
  • Stonehill takes two of the three meetings with the Penmen to win the season series.  
  • The Skyhawks moved into third place in the NE10 with 19 points.  They have won five consecutive conference games. 
  • The Penmen are in sixth place with 14 points and will need a pair of wins and some help to make it to the post-season tournament.
  • Southern New Hampshire has dropped five straight contests.
  • SNHU outshot Stonehill 40-36 for the game.  The Skyhawks were 4-for-9 on the power-play - SNHU was 0-for-4.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • There are two games remaining in the regular season for the Penmen, a home-and-home set with Saint Anselm College.  
  • The teams will play at Sullivan Arena on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.  Saturday's contest is at The Ice Den at 7:20 p.m. where the Penmen will honor its seniors before the Queen City Cup contest.
