Graduate student Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) scored a goal and senior DJ Goldstein (Wareham, Mass.) tallied an assist in their final games for SNHU, a 4-2 loss Saturday night to Saint Anselm College.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Strawn opened the scoring at 6:47 of the first period on a tip in off freshman Matt Monreal (Wauwatosa, Wis.).
- Sophomore Travis Quigly (North Babylon, N.Y.) also had an assist on the power-play goal.
- The Hawks scored the game's next three goals before the Penmen cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal by sophomore Cole Stewart (Alpharetta, Ga.), his sixth of the season, from Goldstein at 9:14 of the second period.
- A short-handed by Saint Anselm's Trey Aiello made it 4-2 in favor of the Hawks mid-way through the third period.
- Senior Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) made 52 saves on 56 shots.
NOTES
- There were 72 minutes in penalties handed out. Saint Anselm with 2-for-6 on the power play. SNHU was 1-for-8.
- Franklin Pierce edged Assumption 1-0 earlier in the day, claiming the NE10's final playoff spot.
- Both SNHU and Saint Anselm missed the playoffs one year after meeting other in the Championship Game, won by the Penmen.
- Gutting's career goals against average of 2.74 will go down as the best in program history.
- Strawn finished his career at SNHU with 26 goals and 48 assists in 103 career games.
- Freshman George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) topped the 2019-20 team in scoring with 12 goals (9 power-play goals) and 8 assists.
