Penmen Fall 2-0 To #4 Assumption

Pigsley Makes Four Saves in NE10 Contest

Graduate student goalkeeper Kate Pigsley (East Kingston, N.H.) made four saves, but #4 Assumption University won its 14th consecutive game, 2-0 over the Penmen on Wednesday afternoon at Larkin Field.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Pigsley – 4 saves
KEY MOMENTS
  • Assumption's Kileigh Hynes opened the scoring 2:18 into the second period.  Hines was fed the ball off a penalty corner, spun into the clear, burying the shot that proved to be the game-winner.  It was her second goal of the season.
  • The Greyhounds scored the other goal midway through the fourth quarter.  Christina Leonard took a pass from Isabel Primack and scored for a 2-0 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Assumption netminder Kyle Garguilo batted aside two Penmen shots in the final quarter to preserve her seventh shutout.  She made three saves overall.
  • The Greyhounds had a 14-5 shot advantage.
  • Assumption also held an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners, all in the first half.
NOTES
  • SNHU had its two-game NE10 winning streak halted.
  • Assumption, ranked fourth in the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II National Coaches Poll, has not lost since the season opener on Sept. 3.
  • The Penmen had won two of the previous three meetings with the Greyhounds.  Assumption leads the all-time series 6-2.
  • Pigsley has stopped 46 of 63 shots (.730) over her last eight games.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 23 (3 p.m.) when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for an NE10 conference game.  The final home game of the season at Larkin Field will be on Saturday, Oct. 30 (2 p.m.) vs. Molloy.
