Sophomore Alyssa Anderson (Londonderry, N.H.) scored just 2:34 into the contest, but the 16th-ranked and top-seeded Southern New Hampshire women's soccer team were shocked by a pair of second-half goals from eighth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University in a 2-1 NE10 Championship quarterfinal loss Sunday afternoon at Penmen Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Anderson corralled a long pass on the left side of the field, made a move to get to the top of the box and hit a long shot just under the crossbar to give Southern New Hampshire a 1-0 lead midway through the third minute.
- The score stayed that way until midway through the 69th minute when Julia Alicea headed home a free kick off the foot of Julia Casimiro.
- Nadine Hilkert tallied the go-ahead goal for the Owls late in the 76th minute off a free kick that went top left corner to make it 2-1.

- Senior goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made two saves.
- SCSU 'keeper Allie Smith turned away six of the seven shots she faced.
- SNHU outshot Southern Connecticut, 13-8, including 7-4 in shots on target.

NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, which is ranked 16th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II National Top 25 Poll, began the season 12-0-1, but has since dropped three of its last four.
- The Penmen slip to 8-10-1 (.447) all-time in the NE10 Championship, including 1-2-0 against Southern Connecticut. This marks the second straight season SNHU bowed out in the opening round.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Southern Connecticut, 12-11-5. The Penmen had their seven-match unbeaten streak (6-0-1) against the Owls snapped. SNHU, which had won four-in-a-row against Southern Connecticut, had also won four straight at home against SCSU dating back to 2016. The Penmen earned a 1-0 home win versus the Owls back on Sept. 25.
- Anderson leads the team in goals (7) and points (18), and is tied for the team lead in assists (4).
- The Penmen are still outscoring their opponents, 29-10, this season.
- SNHU dips to 56-18-11 (.798) over its last 85 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.
- SNHU is now 30-4-4 (.865) at home since the end of the 2016 season, including 21-4-2 (.846) at Penmen Stadium. The Penmen see their 11-match home unbeaten streak (9-0-2), which dated back to Oct. 5, 2019, halted.
