Graduate student Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) won both of his matches Saturday, including a No. 2 singles victory that clinched the match, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team opened the season with a 5-2 triumph over Bentley University.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- van Biezen pulled out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win at No. 2 against Connor Aulson. He also teamed with brother and classmate Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) for a 6-2 doubles victory against Aulson and Daniel Weitz.
- Senior Guido Janssen (Zeewolde, Netherlands) claimed a three-set victory of his own at No. 3 singles, defeating Alexander Novins, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Janssen and junior Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) also posted a 6-2 No. 2 win over Novins and Mauricio Fadul to clinch the doubles point.
- Torres breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles versus Jordan Soifer.
- Sophomore Zachary Duboulay (St. Lucia) squeaked by Sergio Blanco, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 at No. 6 singles, in addition to downing Gabe Horowitz and Max Bonte, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles with freshman Sam Goddard (Amherst).
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire is 1-0 for the ninth straight year.
- SNHU extends its NE10 winning streak, including the postseason, to 47 dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
