Graduate student Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) did not falter all day to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 6-1 Senior Day victory against Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- van Biezen blanked Daniel Weitz, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and also teamed with brother and classmate Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Weitz and Max Bonte.
- Willem van Biezen was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles over Connor Aulson.
- Junior Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) rallied at No. 4 singles against Mauricio Fadul for a 4-6, 6-0, 11-9 triumph. He also combined with senior Guido Janssen (Zeewolde, Netherlands) to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 edging of Fadul and Kendall Au at No. 2.
- Freshman Sam Goddard (Amherst, N.H.) clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Gabe Horowitz at No. 5 singles.
- Sophomore Zachary Duboulay (St. Lucia) capped the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Sergio Blanco at No. 6 singles.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has now won five straight.
- The Penmen also beat Bentley, 5-2, in a season-opening win March 27.
- SNHU has now captured 52 of its last 53 matches against NE10 foes, including the postseason, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
- The Penmen are ranked second in the ITA East Region, while the Falcons are eighth.
- the van Biezens and Janssen were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match.
