Men's Tennis Bounces Back with 6-1 Win Over Saint Michael's

Freshman Sam Goddard (Amherst, N.H.) did not lose a game the entire afternoon, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team defeated Saint Michael's College, 6-1, Tuesday at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Goddard got the Penmen out on the right foot in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Luke Ramsay at No. 5. He also scored the first doubles victory for SNHU, as he and sophomore Zachary Duboulay (St. Lucia) blanked Ramsay and Jack Gunning, 6-0, at No. 3.
  • Duboulay was also a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 6 singles against Gunning.
  • Graduate student Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner against Josh Weiss at No. 1 singles and also teamed with his brother and classmate Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) to edge Weiss and Jason Boucher, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles.
  • Bas van Biezen took down Boucher, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
  • Junior Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) was victorious against Tyler Whitney, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. He also clinched the doubles point with senior Guido Janssen (Zeewolde, Netherlands) at No. 2, as they claimed a 6-1 win versus Whitney and Connor Scott.
NOTES
  • SNHU has now captured 48 of its last 49 matches against NE10 foes, including the postseason, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
  • The Penmen are ranked second in the ITA East Region.

  • Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday, April 8 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to Franklin Pierce University at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
