Anderson Second-Half Goal Is Equalizer for Penmen

Junior Alyssa Anderson (Londonderry, N.H.) scored the equalizer early the second half as SNHU Women's Soccer played a 1-1 tie at American International College on Saturday afternoon. Graduate student Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) made two saves.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS 

  • Anderson – 1 goal
  • Sophomore Mikayla Thompson (Milford, N.H.) – 1 assist
  • Rose – 2 saves
KEY MOMENTS 
  • Senior Jordan Butters (Beverly, Mass.) just missed with an on-goal blast in the 22nd minute that was saved by Olivia Sousa.  It was SNHU's first shot on-goal in the contest.
  • AIC's Alyssa Stetson stole a pass in the Penmen zone and connected from about 30-yards out into the top of the cage to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead with about 11 minutes to play in the first half.
  • Anderson tied the game for the Penmen just seven minutes into the second half off a pinpoint pass from Thompson to make it 1-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • SNHU outshot AIC, 10-7, including 8-3 on target.
  • The Penmen also held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
NOTES 
  • Southern New Hampshire, receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll, records back-to-back ties for the first time since Oct. 5-8, 2013.
  • SNHU still leads the all-time series with AIC 20-9-3. The Penmen are unbeaten in 4 of the last 5 meetings with the Yellow Jackets.
  • Anderson tallied her second goal of the season and ninth of her career.
  • Rose allowed one goal and made two saves.  Her goals against average for the season is 0.64.
  • For the season, SNHU still owns a 16-5 scoring advantage and a 127-64 margin in shots.
  • The Penmen are now 43-15-10 (.706) over their last 68 matches dating back to the start of the 2017 campaign.
