Freshmen Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) and Alex Muthersbaugh (Gilford, N.H.) scored goals, but SNHU Ice Hockey fell 4-2 on Tuesday night at Rivier College at Conway Arena in Nashua.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • Rivier took a 1-0 lead at 6:03 of the first period on a goal by Cormac Hayes. 
  • The Penmen were able to draw even at 12:23 of the second period on Pomposelli's goal. Aldrich battled on the end board, knocking the puck to Thurston, who crossed to Pomposelli for a one-timer that found the net.
  • Avery Arnold tallied a power-play goal for the Raiders at 18:03 to give the home squad a 2-1 advantage. 
  • With just seconds remaining in the second period, SNHU tied the game at 2-2 on a blast from just inside the blue line by Muthersbaugh.  Minnig earned the assist .
  • Rivier potted the game-winner with 10:32 to go in the third period, with Kurt Watson getting a shot off in a scrum in front of the net.
  • The Raiders added an empty net goal with 1:09 to play.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sophomore Cam Bernard (Bedford, N.H.) made his first career start in net, stopping 25 shots for the Penmen.
  • Freshman Will Augustine (Livonia, Mich.) made his first career start for the Raiders and earned a win with 33 saves.
  • The Penmen went 0-for-6 on the power-play, while the Raiders were 1-for-7.
 
NOTES
  • Pomposelli's goal was his third of the season while Muthersbaugh scored for the second time.
  • SNHU and Rivier split the two games they played last season.  The teams will meet at The Ice Den on February 10 (7:30 p.m.).
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU will visit Franklin Pierce for games Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (3:00 p.m.).
  • The Penmen return to The Ice Den on Saturday, November 26 (1:40 p.m.) for the Stovepipe Tournament and a contest with Tufts University.
