(Flushing, N.Y.) -- The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team captured five out of six singles matches en-route to a 5-2 win over regional rival Queens College on Saturday afternoon at the QC Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Freshman Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) clinched the win with a 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 triumph at No. 1 singles over Kareem Rashad.
- Queens opened the match by captured a hard-fought double point winning narrowly at all three court.
- The Knights built on their lead capturing No. 5 singles to take a 2-0 lead. Moritz Borges won 6-0, 6-4 over freshman Boris Stastny (Prague, Czech Republic).
- The Penmen rallied to capture the next five matches en-route to the win.
- In addition to Berling, SNHU had singles wins from No. 2 Thomas Guy (Fulda, Germany; 6-3, 6-4), No. 3 Emmanuel Vacalares (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines; 7-5, 2-6, 7-5), No. 4 Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico; 5-7, 6-4, 6-3) and No. 6 Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick; 5-7, 7-6, 6-0)
NOTES
- SNHU has now won three-straight matches over Queens after dropping the previous six matches to Knights.
- The Penmen have won 10-straight opening matches dating back to the 2012-13 season.
