No. 11 Baseball Captures 12-7 Win Over Queens College

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Redshirt sophomore Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) led off the game with a home run to set an early tone and lift the 11th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team to a 12-7 win over Queens College (N.Y.) at the Ripken Experience Complex on Friday afternoon.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Rivera led of the game with a homer to left field. The Penmen added a second run in the first as Cristian Mercedes (Providence, R.I.) singled and came around on an RBI double by Michael LaRocca (Vero Beach, Fla.).
  • SNHU put up a crocked number in the top of the second, posting five runs. Mercedes'
    RBI triple and Dakota Mulcay's (Goffstown, N.H.) 2 RBI double as the major blows in the inning.
  • Queens cut into the Penmen lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
  • Senior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.) singled and senior Ricky Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) cracked a two-run home run down the right field line to make it 9-2.
  • The Penmen tacked on two more in the sixth inning; one on an RBI single by Henrie and another by virtue of an RBI double by Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.).
  • Queens delivered its biggest hit of the game as Jayson Rodopoulos hit a 3-run home run to make it 11-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Graduate Student Taylor Lepard (Toronto, Ontario; 1-0) went the 6 innings – 5 ER – 9 hits – 2 BB - 4 K.
  • Parker Hanson (Granby, Conn.) worked into the ninth and Preston Yerrington (Manchester, N.H.; 1 save) finished the game on the mound.
  • Henrie had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Rivera, Mercedes and LaRocca (the top 3 in the line up) each notched a pair of hits and combined for four runs scored and four RBI.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked 11th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll, improves to now 7-0 all time against Queens.
  • Nine different Penmen notched a hit including four with multi-hit evenings.
