O'Sullivan Homers, But #11 SNHU Drops Series Finale at Adelphi

Game 1:  Adelphi University 16, #11 Southern New Hampshire University 4
Records: SNHU 10-4 (0-0 NE10), Adelphi 7-4 (0-0 NE10) 
(Garden City, N.Y.) – Redshirt freshman Dylan O'Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.) homered, but #11 SNHU dropped the finale of a three-game series at Adelphi on Monday afternoon 16-4.  The Penmen now gear up for the first Northeast-10 games of the season, this weekend against Stonehill College.

TOP PERFORMERS:

  • Senior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.) - 1-for-3, RBI
  • Senior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.)  - SF, RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Redshirt sophomore Cristian Mercedes (Providence, R.I.) walked, and Henrie doubled.  A sacrifice fly by Mulcay made it 1-0.
  • The Panthers answered with three in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.  Michael Draskin hit a two-run homer for Adelphi.
  • SNHU bounced right back in the top of the second inning to tie.  Redshirt sophomore Nick Schwartz (Massapequa, N.Y.) doubled and O'Sullivan homered.
  • Adelphi scored 13 unanswered runs before the Penmen pushed another run across in the top of the eighth inning.  Redshirt sophomore Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Henrie.
  • SNHU used seven pitchers on Monday.  Graduate student Tyler Brown (Littleton, N.H.) and redshirt sophomore Albert Cuello-Batista (Manchester, N.H.) combined to throw 1.2 scoreless innings at the end of the game.  Redshirt sophomore Griffin Gilbert (Concord, N.H.) took the loss, allowing two runs in 2.1 innings of relief.
NOTES
  • Although both teams are NE10 members, these were non-conference games.  The teams will not meet in conference play, which starts Friday for SNHU.
  • The Penmen, who had scored 121 runs in the first 11 games (11.0 game), were held to just ten runs in the three games with the Panthers.
  • Henrie leads the team with a .439 average and he has at least one hit in each of the first 14 games of the season.
  • The Penmen fall to 11-10 all-time against Adelphi.
  • The home run was O'Sullivan's second of the season, and fourth of his career for Southern New Hampshire University.
