(Orlando, Fla.) -- The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to capture a narrow 4-3 win over Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday afternoon at USTA. Single victories at No. 1 & 2 were the difference in the match.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Freshman Thomas Guy (Fulda, Germany; 6-3, 7(4)-6) secured the win at No. 2 singles.
- Freshman Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) also registered a critical win at No. 1 singles by a score 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
- Senior Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) was the first to register a point for the Penmen by winning at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2.
- Senior Emmanuel Vacalares (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines) closed out his match at No. 3 singles in convincing fashion (6-2, 6-0).
- No. 5 Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick; 1-6; 4-6) and No. 6Â Zachary Duboulay (Castries, Saint Lucia; 1-6, 2-6) both lost their respective singles matches.
- The Tartans swept the doubles point by virtue of wins at 1-2-3 doubles.
NOTES
- Freshmen Guy and Berling are undefeated at 1 & 2 singles this season.
- SNHU is off to its best start since the 2019-20 season.
- This was the first 4-3 victory by the Penmen since a similar victory over Franklin Pierce on April 8, 2021.
