Men's Tennis Improves to 7-0 Win Decisive 6-1 Victory Over Franklin Pierce

The Penmen are off to their best start in program history

(Hooksett, N.H.) -- The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team posted a 6-1 win over in-state rival Franklin Pierce in NE10 action on Tuesday. The Penmen improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in NE10 play.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • No. 1 Freshman Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) won 6-4, 7-6 (6).
  • No. 2 Senior Thomas Guy (Fulda, Germany) won 6-3, 6-3
  • No. 3 Senior Emmanuel Vacalares (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines) won in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-1)  
  • No. 4 Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) won in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 7-5).
  • No. 5 Boris Stastny (Prague, Czech Republic) lost a highly contest match in straight sets; 7-5, 7-5.
  • No. 6 Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
  • The Penmen won the double points by sweeping all three matches. Berling/Guy won at No. 1 doubles 6-2. Torres/Nadeau won at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, while and Vacalares/Stastny won at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.
NOTES
  • The match was senior day and the final regular season home match for Thomas Guy.
  • The Penmen have struggled against the Ravens losing two of the last three matches before today's decisive win.
  • Overall, SNHU is 14-2 in the last 16 meetings against FPU.
  • SNHU's 7-0 start marks the best start in program history; dating back to 2002.
  • Berling is 7-0 in singles for the Penmen.
  • Guy is 7-0 in his career for SNHU.
  • The Penmen finished the regular season 4-0 at home.
