(Manchester, N.H.) – #14 SNHU Baseball hit four home runs and redshirt sophomore Nick Assad (Franklin, Mass.) struck out 12 in his first career start in the Penmen's 12-3 non-conference win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College Wednesday. With the win, SNHU improves to 20-7 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After STAC plated a run in the top of the first inning, SNHU responded with a pair of runs in each of the first two frames. Mercedes singled and Schwartz homered to make it 2-1.
O'Sullivan knocked one out of the park in the second inning and Henrie added an RBI single for a 4-1 lead.
The Penmen tacked on another run in the bottom of the third inning on a double by graduate student Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.), and a couple of wild pitches, to make it 5-1.
Gregory DiGiaro homered in the top of the fourth inning for the Spartans, his fourth of the season.
Mercedes responded with the third Penmen homer of the game, a solo shot in the bottom of the frame that kicked off a four-run frame that included a sacrifice fly by senior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) and a two-run double by Taveras for a 9-2 lead.
Poole hit his second home run of the season leading off the fifth to put SNHU up 10-2, and he drove in another run in the sixth.

NOTES

SNHU is ranked 14th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll and still sits atop the NCBWA East Region Poll.
The Penmen improve to 11-7 against STAC, and have won the last five against the Spartans.
The teams will meet on April 27 in Sparkill, N.Y.
Schwartz extended his hitting streak to 15 games and has hit safely in 20 of his last 21, as well as 22 of 25 for the entire season.
After Assad, SNHU received scoreless relief pitching on Wednesday from graduate student Preston Yerrington (Manchester, N.H.), Freshman Frankie Sanchez (South Brunswick, N.J.), and redshirt sophomore Albert Cuello-Batista (Manchester, N.H.).
Unable to play at Penmen Field, the game was played at Saint Anselm College's Sullivan Park.

UP NEXT

SNHU will host Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. The games will be played at the Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover, Mass.
