MANSFIELD, MASS. – Senior Joseph Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.), a member of the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team, has been selected as the 2021-22 Northeast-10 Conference Man of the Year. The award, which is voted on by a panel of administrators from each NE10 institution, was announced in a virtual awards show Thursday night.
The Northeast-10 Conference Man of the Year honors student-athletes for their excellence in competition, in the classroom, and in community service. Fiorino is the third Southern New Hampshire student-athlete to be feted with the distinction, as he joins Kyle Thomas (2015), and Tyler McLaren (2018) as the three Penmen to be named NE10 Man of the Year since the award's inception in 2013. SNHU has also had an NE10 Woman of the Year, Laura van der Doorn (2020).
Fiorino, one of three finalists for the honor, earned a 3.91 GPA pursuing his MBA at SNHU after earning a degree in business administration (3.94). The 2021-22 NE10 Defensive Player of the Year has developed a well-balanced portfolio of work since attending SNHU. He served in a leadership position with "Stick It To Stigma", an initiative to spread awareness about mental health among student-athletes, as well as worked on SAAC and dedicated time to supporting Team IMPACT while at Southern New Hampshire. Fiorino also served as Presidential Ambassador, engaging with local and university communities - as well as the SNHU president - to address student concerns across campus and provide support to the Manchester community.
The NE10 is an association of 14 diverse institutions service student-athletes across 24 NCAA Division II sports. Each year, 4,500 student-athletes compete in conference championships, making the NE10 the largest Division II conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
