Women's Tennis Closes In On Regular-Season Title With 7-0 Blanking of Saint Anselm

Freshman Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) did not drop a game at No. 3 singles in clinching the match, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team silenced Saint Anselm College, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Abadzic blanked Olivia Parzick, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and also teamed with senior Eleonora Guglielmetti (Novara, Italy) for a 6-4 victory against Julie Borschig and Parzick at No. 2 doubles.
  • Guglielmetti made quick work of Julia Svor, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
  • Sophomore Alina Kupfer (Baldham, Germany) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner versus Irene Garbo at No. 1 singles and also combined with graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) for a 6-1 win over Garbo and Camila Heredia-Osante at No. 1 doubles.
  • Weindl shut out Heredia-Osante, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
  • Freshman Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Abigail Svor.
  • Freshman Nadia Alden (Edmond, Okla.) produced a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Julia Casaletto at No. 6 singles. She also clinched the doubles point with junior Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) at No. 3, doubling up Abigail and Julia Svor.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has now won six straight matches.
  • SNHU needs a win in the regular-season finale to clinch a share of the NE10 Regular-Season Championship. The Penmen would also claim the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NE10 Championship with a victory.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Saint Anselm, 22-5, and have now won 22-in-a-row versus the Hawks.
  • SNHU earns two points in the Queen City Cup standings and the battle for Manchester supremacy is now tied, 3-3.

  • The Penmen close out the fall regular season Saturday, Oct. 14 (2 p.m.) when they play host to Franklin Pierce University at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
