Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) clinched the win with a triumph at No. 1 singles, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory against in-state rival Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Berling defeated Joe Herin, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, at No. 1 singles to push the Penmen out to a 4-0 lead. He also combined with graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Noe Martin and Alejandro Ortiz.
- Ouwejan was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles versus Ortiz.
- Senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) rallied at No. 2 singles for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ralph Hiebel. Hartog and junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) clinched the doubles point at the top flight by edging Preston Gordon and Hiebel, 6-4.
- Nadeau topped Gordon, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
- Sophomore Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) took down Orlando Guerrero, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 6 singles and also teamed with sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) to pull out a 7-6 (7-5) win against Herin and Guerrero at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
- Vix suffered a 6-2, 2-6, 1-6 defeat versus Martin at No. 3 singles.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with FPU, 18-6, with the Penmen winning four of the last six, including two-in-a-row at home.
