Sophomore Carly Schofield (Plymouth, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 2-0 blanking of 23rd-ranked Saint Anselm College on Tuesday afternoon at Melucci Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Schofield – 1 goal, 1 assist
  • Graduate student Victoria Roulston (E. Falmouth, Mass.) – goal
  • Sophomore Claudia Keith (Danvers, Mass.) – 3 saves; shutout
KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire snapped the scoreless deadlock 5:44 into the second half when Schofield sent a pass from the right endline to the top of the 6-yard box, where Roulston buried her shot to make it 1-0.
  • The Penmen doubled the lead just 1:36 later off a Saint Anselm giveaway. Schofield hustled to run onto the ball and went in 1-on-1, sliding a left-footed shot under the 'keeper to stretch the lead to 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Anselm goalkeeper Maggie Warner stopped seven of the nine shots she faced.
  • SNHU outshot Saint Anselm, 13-8, including 9-3 in shots on target.
  • The Penmen also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire is unbeaten in its last five contests (3-0-2).
  • The win jumped the Penmen from seventh in the NE10 standings up to fifth, just one point behind the Hawks. SNHU would host an NE10 Championship quarterfinal match if it won its final two matches, though it has other paths to a home contest.
  • SNHU still leads the all-time series with Saint Anselm, 23-13-5, but the Hawks lead, 6-4-2, over the last 12 meetings. Saint Anselm had been 3-0-1 over the last four and had not lost to SNHU since Sept. 13, 2017 (3-0). This is the first win at Saint Anselm for the Penmen since Oct. 26, 2016 (5-3).
  • The Penmen are now 4-1-1 this season against teams ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Coaches Poll.
  • Schofield's goal was the seventh of her first season with the Penmen. All seven goals have come in the last five matches. She leads the team in both goals and points (15), while ranking fourth and fifth in the league in those respective categories.
  • Roulston's fourth goal of the season sets a new career high for her. She now has eight career goals.
  • Keith's clean sheet is her third of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • The Penmen are now 50-22-18 (.656) over their last 90 matches dating back to the start of the 2017 campaign.
  • Southern New Hampshire collects two points in the Queen City Cup standings and now leads Saint Anselm, 9-6, in the battle for Manchester supremacy.
UP NEXT
  • SNHU will be back in action Saturday (Oct. 28) at 6:30 p.m. against Pace University.
  • The Penmen close the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 1 (6 p.m.) when they play host to Bentley University at Ouellette Stadium.
