Penmen Finish Regular Season With 6-2 Win at STAC

Thibodeau Scores Twice As Penmen Make It Five Wins In Last Six

Senior Emma Thibodeau (Danvers, Mass.) scored two goals and SNHU field hockey finished the regular with a 6-2 win at St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday in Sparkill, N.Y.   
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS  
KEY MOMENTS
  • Three first period goals gave the Penmen a jump start to the win.
  • van de Poll made it 1-0 with a blast off a pass from Wiersma at 5:15.
  • Christis connected on a tough low angle shot just 1:18 later to make it 2-0.
  • Bates worked through traffic to score to make it 3-0 at 10:59.
  • The first of Thibodeau's two goals came late in the third period off a pass from Hendriks, and she scored again at 56:27 off a long pass from Bates.
  • Crocombe finished the scoring in the closing minute from Lovejoy.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU outshot the Spartans 23-7, including 14-5 on goal.
  • STAC had a 7-2 advantage on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • The Penmen won five of the last six games to finish the regular season and now lead the all-time series with the Spartans 6-2.  STAC had won the last two meetings prior to today.
  • van de Poll has 14 goals, most in a season by an SNHU freshman, and one off the single-season record set in 2019 by Laura van der Doorn and Helene Servais.
  • Christis and Wiersma have eached scored 25 points this season.
  • Christis, with 72 career points, is third all-time, and just one point behind Servais.
UP NEXT
  • SNHU will head to Pace University on Tuesday (Oct. 31) to open the NE10 playoffs.  Game time is 4:00 p.m.
  • Both teams finished 9-4 in the NE10, but the Setters earned the home game with a 3-2 overtime win over the Penmen on September 16.
  • The teams have never met in the Northeast-10 Championship.
