Ice Hockey Tops Westfield State 3-2

Lynch Scores Third Period Game-Winning Goal

Sophomore Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) tipped a rebound of a shot 3:12 into the third period to give SNHU Ice Hockey a 3-2 win over Westfield State on Tuesday in Woborn, Mass.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen scored the first goal of the game at 11:58 of the first period when Hirschberger scored off a pass from Twardosky and Ball.
  • Westfield State tied the game on a goal by Christopher Miraldo at 14:36.
  • Emile Pichette scored just 49 seconds into the second period as the Rams took a 2-1 lead.
  • SNHU would tie the game at 2-2 with just 41 seconds left in the middle period.  Amante corralled a puck off the end boards and fired a long blast that found the upper left corner of the cage.
  • The game winner came at 3:12 of the final period when Lynch drove home the winner off a shot from Minnig
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen outshot the Rams 34-26 for the game.
  • The Penmen were 0-4 on the power-play while Westfield State was 0-for-3.
NOTES
  • This was the first meeting between SNHU and Westfield State since January 5, 2017.
  • The Penmen hold a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The game was billed as Hockey Fights Hunger with non-perishable food items collected and was played in Woburn where SNHU Coach Sean Walsh lives.  Westfield State's Bob Miele is a native of Woburn.
  • Hirschberger scored his first career goal.
  • Amante's goal was his third of the season, and 19 for his career.  That's top among active SNHU players.
