Penmen Fall In Overtime To Saint Michael's in NE10 Opener

Sophomore Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist, but SNHU Ice Hockey dropped its NE10 opener 5-4, in overtime, to Saint Michael's College Friday at the Ice Den.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Michael's opened the scoring at 2:43 of the first period on a power-play goal by Brennan McFarland.
  • The Penmen tied the contest at 3:59 when Lynch found a loose puck a the Purple Knight goal.  Amante assisted with a long feed from the SNHU zone.
  • Ryland Dukes put Saint Michael's up 2-1 less than two minutes later with another power-play marker.
  • Trailing 3-1 late in the third period, the Penmen came up with a pair of goals within 46 seconds to tie on goals by Amante and Pomposelli.
  • After the Purple Knights went back up at 9:42 of the third on a goal by Case Kantgias, the Penmen quickly tied the game at 4-4 on Pomposelli's second goal from Murthersbaugh and freshman Nic Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.).
  • The Penmen picked up a penalty as regulation ended, and Saint Michael's connected on the game-winner with the extra skater just 36 seconds into overtime when Kantgias scored his second goal of the game.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The shots ended 36-35 in favor of the Penmen.
  • Saint Michael's went 3-for-6 on the power play while the Penmen were 0-for-3.
NOTES
  • This was the Northeast-10 opener for both teams.
  • Saint Michael's leads the all-time series 48-27-6 and the Purple Knights have won three straight and four of the last five in the series.
  • The win for Saint Michael's Coach Damian Digiulian was his 100th with the program.
  • Pomposelli leads the Penmen with three goals in two games.
  • Freshman Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) made 30 saves in his debut.
  • Dallaire earned his first collegiate point with his third period assist.
  • Saint Michael's goalie Marshal Murphy made 32 saves and beat the Penmen for the fourth time in two seasons.
  • The Penmen wore their new yellow jerseys for the first time sporting new logo for Southern New Hampshire University.
