Ice Hockey Season Ends With 3-1 Playoff Loss to Franklin Pierce

Senior George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied in the second period, but the Penmen fell to Franklin Pierce University 3-1 in the first round of the Northeast-10 playoffs on Tuesday at The Ice Den Arena Tuesday night.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • It took Franklin Pierce just 15 seconds to take a lead they would not give up.
  • Rumsey took the puck the length of the ice and scored to make it 1-0.
  • The teams exchanged goals midway through the second period.  Rumsey's rebound shot made it 2-0 but Thurston answered for the Penmen two minutes later with a clean-up of a shot by Pomposelli.
  • A power-play goal by Anthony Nikolopoulos at 18:41 of the second period made it 3-1, and neither team scored in the final 20 minutes.

  • SNHU went 0-for-3 on the power play while Franklin Pierce was 1-2.
  • The Penmen had a 52-25 shot advantage, including 26-8 in the second period.

  • It was the first regulation win for Franklin Pierce over SNHU this season.

  • Thurston finished the season with 15 goals and 12 assists (27 points), and in 73 games for SNHU, he tallied 48 goals and had 32 assists.  31 of his career goals came on the power play, including 10 this season which leads the Northeast-10 Conference.
