Skylar Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) scored to tie the game, 1-1, in the opening quarter, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to eighth-ranked Adelphi University, 12-4, at Ouellette Stadium in the NE10 opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Adelphi took a 1-0 lead a little over three minutes in, Pietz scored off an assist from Cole to even the score with 9:02 left in the first quarter.
- The Panthers scored three straight before Cole set up Renaud to pull the Penmen within 4-2 with 8:43 to go in the second quarter. From there, however, Adelphi scored three straight, including with seven seconds on the clock before the half, to take a 7-2 advantage into the break.
- Adelphi won the third quarter, 2-0, before Peredna found the back of the net off a pass from grad student Katie Crowther (Wrentham, Mass.) to make it a 9-3 game.
- The Panthers would score three of the final four.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior goalkeeper Megan Petko (Monroe, N.Y.) racked up 10 saves for the Penmen.
- Adelphi goalie Madison Marchetta stopped four shots.
- Adelphi outshot SNHU, 28-16, including 15-5 in the first half.
- The Panthers also held an 11-9 edge in draw controls and owned a 22-12 advantage in ground balls.
- SNHU was 1-for-4 on its free-position shots, while Adelphi went 1-for-3.

- Adelphi is ranked eighth in the latest ILWomen/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Poll, while the Penmen are receiving votes. In the five games they have played, the Panthers have faced three teams ranked in the top 25, as well as two teams receiving votes.
- While the Panthers lead the all-time series, 14-0, the eight-goal margin of victory is their smallest ever against the Penmen. SNHU's previous closest affair with Adelphi was an 18-9 road loss March 8, 2008.
- The Penmen are still outscoring their five opponents this season, 81-32.
