Freshman Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) tied the match, 1-1, with her win at No. 2 singles, but the fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team had its season ended Monday with a 4-1 loss to the fifth-seeded University of the District of Columbia in the opening round of the NCAA Championship East Region No. 1, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University, at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Kupfer easily took care of Mariona Franco, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles to even the match, 1-1.
NOTES
- Senior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) won the first set against Sofia Bellucco at No. 4 singles, but dropped a 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 decision that clinched the match.
- Senior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) won the first set at No. 1 singles against Simone Parn, but was locked in a 6-2, 3-6, 2-2 duel when the match ended.
- Likewise, graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) was victorious in her first set at No. 3 singles versus Laura Marie, but narrowly trailed, 6-1, 3-6, 2-3, when the match drew to a close.
- In its seventh NCAA Championship appearance, SNHU dips to 4-7 (.364) all-time.
- UDC improves to 2-1 all-time against SNHU, with the Firebirds also defeating the Penmen, 5-3, in the NCAA Championship on April 29, 2012. The Penmen earned an 8-1, regular-season home victory March 14, 2015.
