Sophomore Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) and graduate student Zuza Krygier (Poznan, Poland) handed the Chargers' top doubles duo its first dual-match loss of the season, but the fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was defeated by the top-seeded University of New Haven in the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship on Friday afternoon at the UNH Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- No. 1 doubles: Abadzic/Krygier def. Valentinna Ferrarini/Karim Careeras, 6-2
NOTES
- SNHU had a chance to steal the doubles point, but Risako Umekuni and Victoria Togores pulled out a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles against sophomore Justina Haver (Taipei, Taiwan) and freshman Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
- Sophomore Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) was ahead, 6-1, 1-3, against Laura Ortner at No. 5 singles when the match was clinched.
- Ferrarini and Carreras had entered 13-1 on the year, including a perfect 8-0 in dual matches. Their only loss was at the ITA Cup, which featured the top 16 doubles teams in the country. Ferrarini and Carreras had just defeated Abadzic and Krygier, 6-4, in the regular-season meeting Oct. 8.
- Southern New Hampshire has now lost three of its last four.
- SNHU dips to 18-16 all-time in the NE10 Championship, including 1-1 against the Chargers. The Penmen were in the semifinals for the fourth straight year and for the second consecutive season against the University of New Haven. SNHU won, 4-2, at home last year.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with New Haven, 15-3, but the Chargers have now won two straight. SNHU had been a perfect 7-0 at New Haven.
