Freshman Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) clinched the match with a win at No. 3 singles, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team responded to its first loss of the season with a 6-1 victory against Bentley University on Wednesday at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Tsui edged Sonali Parasu, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. She also teamed with sophomore Justina Haver (Taipei, Taiwan) for another 6-4 victory against Parasu and Isabella Kaldy at No. 2 doubles.
- Haver made quick work of Catalina Borrero, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
- Sophomore Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) rallied past Maria Mella at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. She and graduate student Zuza Krygier (Poznan, Poland) combined to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Borrero and Mella at No. 2.
- Krygier breezed by Kaldy, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
- Sophomore Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) was a 6-4, 6-3 victor over Julie Madden at No. 5.
NOTES
- Senior Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) fell to Zoe Sbarra-Vaughan, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-3) at No. 6 singles.
- Southern New Hampshire matches its 6-1 start to the season from last year.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Bentley, 18-9, and has captured 17-in-a-row. The last win for the Falcons came April 23, 2009 (5-3) on its home court. The Penmen have also won eight consecutive matches at home, with Bentley last leaving Manchester victorious April; 17, 2008 (5-4).
