Women's Tennis Loses Crucial Match at Assumption, 5-2

Penmen miss out on first-round bye, but will host

Freshman Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) won both of her matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team dropped a crucial contest at Assumption University, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Assumption Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • No. 3 singles: Tsui def. Marie Knipsel, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1)
  • No. 2 doubles: Tsui/sophomore Justina Haver (Taipei, Taiwan) def. Carolina deSouza/Danielle deSouza, 6-4
  • Graduate student Zuza Krygier (Poznan, Poland) def. C. deSouza, 6-4, 6-1
NOTES
  • Sophomore Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) was outlasted at No. 5 singles by Madison Ericson, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-2. 
  • Southern New Hampshire had won two-in-a-row.
  • The loss removes the possibility of SNHU earning a first-round bye in the upcoming NE10 Championship. The Penmen are now locked into either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed and will host a first-round match Wednesday, Oct. 16.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Assumption, 18-6, and had won 18 of the last 19 meetings, including five-in-a-row, versus the Greyhounds.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen wrap up their NE10 regular-season slate Tuesday, Oct. 8 (3 p.m.) when they play host to the first-place University of New Haven at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
